Where in the world

A blog about traveling, figuring out adulthood, and connecting with people and places along the way.

Their bright white cheches and flowing robes contrast with the light blue sky and tan sand of the backdrop. Caught in a transient moment, their bodies appear in motion while their eyes track the absent camera, as if looking directly at the onlooker. Although captured in a specific moment in time, over 42,000 listeners have viewed the captivating image of Tinariwen, a Tuareg band from Mali, set as the cover of Spotify’s “Sahara” playlist. Described as “the hottest music from the hottest desert,” the playlists’ 50 songs, description, and depiction all contribute to the international imagination of the region.

Rio feels like a broken promise, maybe that’s why I try to bury such vivid recollections. Such an attempt is both futile and half-hearted however, because Rio, and Brazil at large, make themselves known wherever I go.

I remember it when I smell the breeze coming from the salty air in Málaga.

There is joy though. That is certain. I feel it most whenever I return to the water…

wanna go adventuring?

My name is Tricia and I am an Aquarius for my astrology appreciators. For those who couldn’t care less, I frequently get lost on hikes (yes, there is an article). I also enjoy cooking without any recipes (the article is coming).

I am a serial starter of many unfinished projects… knitting, sewing, learning Italian on Duolingo, the list goes on. ‘Where In The World’ however feels different. Maybe its because I am really passionate about storytelling. I love having conversations with people and learning about the places they’ve been, the people they have met and the moments in their lives they hold dear.

I think there is something really precious about intimate exchanges and I hope you see these articles like a conversation between me and you. I am very much still in the beginning stages of finding my voice and writing style, so lets think of this as a trial and error project…

It was January 5th, 2022, just days after my roommates and I had welcomed the New Year with crazy (overly drunk) festivities. In contrast to the hysterics of the days prior, this morning was calm: blue skies dotted with just the right number of white clouds.

Like me, Madrid and its residents seemed content to remain in a lazy haze. Its streets were particularly quiet, speckled only with the occasional passerby walking their dog. Its tall yellow buildings seemed to bask in the sun’s rays. With no school for another five days, what better way to spend the chilly morning than sketching in a cozy Spanish café?

into the darkness

I am currently writing this right at the beginning of El Camino Verde de Valparaíso en Jaén. It is March 5th 2022. Just like in good ole Tricia fashion, I’m technically off the trail, randomly sat on a hillier incline so I can have a better view of the snowy peaks of Sierra Morena. Yesterday, it rained (a rare occurrence this year) and so, even though it is currently 54 degrees Fahrenheit and everywhere else looks green and spring-like, Sierra Morena is covered in a blanket of luscious white snow.

Madrid and Big City Dreams

Madrid is like a forbidden lover

It’s an alternative reality you allow yourself to explore when you lie in your bed at night– eyes wide open, mind searching. You can’t shake the thought that you deserve more, a life where every day makes you feel energized and motivated.

You can’t ignore that… searching, that feeling that you are missing out on an undiscovered life

The Books I Have Been Reading

From a murder mystery in Northern Ireland to a fictional love affair between two authors, all of these books have taught me so much about the human condition. And so here are the books that have made me cry, made me laugh and made me fall in love with reading again.
